Who We are... Fort Garry Lions Football has proudly provided young people in the
Fort Garry & surrounding areas the opportunity to experience and take part in the great game of football since 1957. We offer teams for ages 7 to 22 years Terminators through to our Majors. We believe it's a privilege to help our players develop the skills needed to play a great game of football, and use those same skills to achieve their potential & succeed in every area of life. 2011 Our Presidents Message Transition As with all things in life, there are changes. And the life of a community football club is no exception. At the recent Annual General Meeting, several new faces took on the challenge of serving on the Board of the Fort Garry Lions Football Club. As others, who have given countless hours of volunteer time over the years, step back to see what other opportunities life will bring their way. (Or take a well deserved rest!) Thank You First of all, let me say thank you to those that have served the local football community so faithfully over the past number of years. I would especially like to recognize Ken and Carrie Myer, Ted Higham, Sandy Klippenstein, and Greg Pennycook. The time and effort you put into administering the affairs of the club and coaching the kids of our community is truly appreciated. Your daily presence around the field will be missed. Thank you to Richard Holden, for providing leadership to the Board for the past 2 years. Richard isn’t going far, but will now serve in a slightly different capacity as Past President, providing me with much needed counsel. Thank you also to some long time contributors that will continue on, to help the new Board move forward without losing our connection to the past traditions. These include Blair Schapansky, Jim Duncan, and Vic Hiebert. Final thanks to all those coaches, managers, and trainers, who contributed so faithfully last year. New Board and New Opportunities With a strong volunteer base, the football experience that we all have a stake in, can be great and memorable. Please consider where you can contribute. As you can see on the list below, new names are taking on new roles, and some roles still need to be filled. I feel quite privileged to be able to work with this new Board, both rookies and veterans, and the entire parent and player community, to make the Fort Garry Lions Football Club a great Club to be a part of. We continue to make improvements to our field infrastructure, and plan to do more. Last year it was improvements to the lighting in our main field and practice areas, which we will be able to take full advantage of this coming season. Other projects are planned, and will only be completed if there is sufficient volunteer support. Looking Ahead to 2011. Since 1957, the Fort Garry Lions Football Club has provided young people in the Fort Garry area the opportunity to experience and participate in the great game of football. I am already looking forward to the upcoming season, and the growth and learning opportunities that will come with it for all of us. We intend to have a full slate of teams from Terminator to Majors (7-22 years old), and with the dedication of the coaches, kids, and parents, we can’t help but be successful in developing in each of our players the fundamental principles of good citizenship, how to be part of a team, working together toward a common goal, and scoring a few touchdowns along the way. I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can. Feel free to call me any time to discuss concerns or to make suggestions that will help improve the quality of our program. Thank you. Wes Mueller President Fort Garry Lions Football Club 791-3966 2011 FGL Board Members
